Privacy Policy

VoltYard ("we", "us", "our") operates voltyard.com.au, a free community marketplace for EV cars (new and wrecked) and parts in Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and handle your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. What information we collect

We collect personal information that you provide when using our platform:

  • Account holders (optional): email address and password when you create an account. Dealer and wrecker accounts also provide a business name, ABN, and dealer/wrecker licence details for manual verification. You may also optionally add a display name, username, avatar, and short bio to your public profile.
  • Sellers: name, email address, and optionally phone number, when you post a listing. Account holders have these pre-filled from their profile; a listing can also be posted as a guest without an account.
  • Buyers: name, email address, optionally phone number, and your message, when you submit an enquiry on a listing.

We do not collect payment information. Account passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider (Supabase) — we never see or store your plaintext password.

2. How we collect it

Information is collected directly from you when you sign up for an account, submit a listing via our "Sell" form, or submit an enquiry on a listing page. We do not collect information from third parties or through tracking technologies.

Session cookies are used to keep you signed in to your account and to authenticate the site administrator. No tracking or analytics cookies are set for general visitors.

3. Why we collect it and how we use it

  • Listing submissions: your seller name is displayed publicly on your listing. Your email address is used to send you a listing confirmation and, if approved or rejected, a status notification. It is not displayed publicly.
  • Enquiries: your name, email, phone number (if provided), and message are sent directly to the seller of the listing via email so they can respond to you.
  • Platform administration: we may use contact details to follow up on listing accuracy concerns or to notify you of important changes to the platform.

4. Who we share it with

  • Sellers: when you submit an enquiry, your contact details and message are shared with the seller of that listing by email. This is the primary purpose of the platform.
  • Supabase: our database and file storage provider. Data may be stored on servers located in the United States or European Union. Supabase is subject to their own privacy policy.
  • Resend: our transactional email provider, used to deliver confirmation and notification emails. Resend is subject to their own privacy policy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any other third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data retention

Listings and associated seller information are retained while the listing is active and for a reasonable period after removal to assist with dispute resolution. Enquiry records are retained for a reasonable period for platform administration purposes.

Account holders can delete their account at any time from their profile settings, which removes profile data and unlinks any listings they posted. You may also request deletion of your information by contacting us (see below).

6. Accessing and correcting your information

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to request corrections. To make a request, contact us at contact@voltyard.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, misuse, or disclosure. Seller email addresses and phone numbers are not publicly displayed on listing pages. All data is stored with Supabase using industry-standard security practices.

8. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles and wish to make a complaint, please contact us at contact@voltyard.com.au. We will investigate and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of VoltYard after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
